A senior had her purse stolen from her vehicle in a distraction theft, according to Barrie police.

The woman left her purse in her unlocked car at a grocery store late Wednesday afternoon so she could return a shopping cart to a cart corral.

A "well-dressed" male followed her, police said, and then engaged her in what was described as "silly conversation."

"This allowed an unknown accomplice to enter her unlocked car and steal her purse while the car was unattended," police said in a news release.

Police are reminding the public that while shopping, they should keep an eye on their personal belongings and never leave them unattended.
