Quebec woman dies after developing vaccine-induced blood clot

Canada's first death in connection to AstraZeneca blood clots, out of over 600k doses

Health officials have confirmed a Quebec woman has died from a complication linked to a vaccine-induced blood clot.

Quebec’s Public Health Director, Dr. Horacio Arruda, made the announcement during the provincial government’s daily COVID-19 update. He said she received the AstraZeneca vaccine prior to developing a blood clot.

Reports suggest the woman was 54 years of age, while Dr. Arruda couldn’t confirm that, citing privacy concerns.

She is the first Canadian to die after having received an AstraZeneca vaccine. As of last week, over 600,000 AstraZeneca doses had been administered across Canada, while only four people have developed blood clots as a result.
