Quick thinking Orillia mugging victim helped police lay charges by remembering the bad guys’ licence plate

Trio of youth facing series of charges

A trio is facing charges after a masked mugging on the streets of Orillia.

Around 11:00 Thursday night, a teenager was walking near his home on West St. when he was confronted by three men wearing balaclavas who had just come from a nearby vehicle. Police say he was robbed at knifepoint of several personal items. He received minor injuries in the interaction.

The smart-thinking teen was able to note a licence plate as the getaway car sped off, which made it easy for police to track down a suspect vehicle.

Three young persons were taken into custody. Officers say a replica handgun, three knives, five balaclavas, and some pot were seized. Charges laid include robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon, and possession.
