A heads up from South Simcoe Police who have received reports of residents receiving calls and emails from someone offering rebates on their electricity bills and asking for access to their homes to verify if they are eligible for the rebates.
" The scammers are also asking if the homeowners are over the age of 75-years-old," police said in a news release.
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has previously issued warnings about this.
"The OEB says the Ontario Electricity Support Program application and approval process does not require home visits and that companies are not allowed to use or promote the OESP as part of any sales pitch. If you receive one of these calls, hang up and remember, never allow strangers into your home" the release added.
