Recall notice issued for uncertified smoke alarms sold through Walmart website

Product sold online and was never certified to Canadian standards

A recall notice has been issued for a safety device known to fail.

The recall applies to the product Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector for Home. It is white, round, with a blue digital display. The detector is battery operated and is not capable of being hardwired into the home.

Health Canada says the detector has no model number, date of manufacture, and lacks the vital certification marks like CSA, cUL, and cETL, meaning the product was never certified to Canadian standards. It was sold by a third party through the website Walmart.ca.

Thus far, there is only one report of this product failing to alert residents to the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide, while no injuries have been reported.

If you have one of these products in your home, Health Canada says it should be immediately replaced with a functioning, certified detector. The defective product should be disposed of.
