A wanted man is back in custody and facing a long list of charges.
Barrie police say an officer was on patrol in the area of the Wellington Street plaza just before 9:30 Sunday night when he spotted a man who was known to him and was wanted on a number of outstanding arrest warrants.
As soon as this guy saw the police cruiser, it's alleged that the man made a run for it and ditched a backpack he was wearing.
Within three minutes, officers had the man in custody.
Back at police headquarters, it's alleged officers found a replica firearm in the backpack, and documents that connected the accused to the theft of a vehicle in Barrie earlier in the day.
A 33-year-old of no fixed address faces 3 counts each of failing to comply with probation, six counts of operation while prohibited and one count each of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, failure to attend court, trepassing at night, fraud under $5,000, and driving while under suspension.
The man was held for a bail hearing scheduled by video on Monday.
