One person is in hospital and another is unaccounted for after a residential fire in Essa Township on Saturday morning.

Nottawasaga OPP say they responded to the location on the 3rd Line at 6:20 a.m. and "observed that the residence was fully engulfed in flames."

Police say both of the individuals are adults. One was sent to a Toronto-area trauma centre.

"Police have reason to believe that a second adult was unable to exit the residence and is currently unaccounted for," OPP stated in a release.

Forensic identification services and the fire marshal were called.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area.

Anyone with information regarding the cause of the blaze is asked to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
