Alliston Ribfest Cancelled Over Paid Duty Issues

Police Say Paperwork Not Filed On Time, Festival Says Every Effort Was Made

The OPP are pointing the finger at festival organizers after this weekend’s Ribfest had to be cancelled.

The Nottawasaga OPP released a statement today, stating the second annual festival has been cancelled after organizers failed to submit the proper paperwork to have paid duty officers on site on time. “It is the event organizers direct responsibility to ensure that applications for paid duty requests be submitted to the OPP with the mandatory information related to the event and specific details to what resources are being requested in a timely manner. “

A statement posted to the Alliston Ribfest Facebook page says “despite our repeated efforts to fulfill the OPP’s request for information, they have said they ‘cannot process’ our application for duty officers at the event. Without duty officers, the township will not let us proceed.”

The statement went on to say that, without the support of the OPP, organizers feel unable to continue hosting the event in Alliston.
