Two men have been charged after Barrie police allege they seized a semi-automatic rifle and drugs from a vehicle.
Police say at around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, they spotted two males standing beside a vehicle with the hatchback door open that was parked on the street in the northeast part of the city. When it drove away, police conducted a traffic stop.
Investigators say the driver, a 39-year-old from Angus, had a suspended licence.
"While being taken into custody, two small bags of suspected cocaine were found on the male and a further search of the car resulted in police locating and seizing a large quantity of cannabis, fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and Canadian currency," police said in a news release on Tuesday.
In the back seat of the vehicle, officers said they located a semi-automatic rifle and a loaded magazine.
Both men were held in custody for a bail hearing that was expected to take place on Tuesday.
The driver has been charged with:
- Driving While Under Suspension
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (3 counts)
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (3 counts
- Unauthorized possession of firearm
- Careless Storage of Ammunition
- Possession of over 30g of dried Cannabis (or equivalent) in a Public Place
- Possession of Illicit Cannabis
- Possession (Cannabis) for the purpose of distributing.
The passenger, a 25-year-old from Orillia, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance (3 counts)
- Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (3 counts
- Unauthorized possession of firearm
- Careless Storage of Ammunition
- Possession of over 30g of dried Cannabis (or equivalent) in a Public Place
- Possession of Illicit Cannabis
- Possession (Cannabis) for the purpose of distributing
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (Firearm)
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (Ammunition).
