He hasn't worn pants since 1963 and is not about to start now.
A&W's mascot, "Rooty the Root Bear," has only ever worn a shirt while proudly swaying what his momma bear gave him.
The restaurant and Rooty were trending yesterday after the company released a tongue-in-cheek statement saying that Rooty would start wearing pants, adding that "even a mascot's lack of pants can be polarizing."

Soon after their statement, the internet world and some news outlets exploded, blaming 'woke' culture for the change. Such as this clip from FOX News.
But here's the thing... it was a joke!
A&W thought up the gag after M&M's pulled its spokes candies for seemingly never being able to do or wear the right thing.
Go-go boots or sneakers, I'm good with both as long as it's chocolate.
A&W eventually clarified their statement with this simple message.
Oh boy.. now I'm off to get a papa burger and root bear to drown my sorrows from this ridiculousness.
