RVH beefing up COVID-19 testing clinic with assessment centre and resources for cold and flu ahead of winter weather

The Drive-Thru COVID-19 assessment centre in Barrie’s north end won’t be drive-thru for much longer.

In anticipation of the colder weather that winter brings, the testing clinic at 29 Sperling Drive will transition to indoor appointments. The existing centre will also be augmented with the addition of an assessment centre and a new COVID-19, Cold, and Flu clinic. In these additions, patients with moderate symptoms common to COVID-19 will be assessed by a physician.

New handheld scanners are expected to speed up the process, as officials can now scan health cards or drivers’ licenses instead of entering details by hand.

“This is really exciting news for both our staff and patients presenting to our testing clinics,” says Stella Johnson, operations director, Emergency department, Intensive Care Unit and COVID-19 Clinics. “RVH is testing more than 400 patients each day and as demand continues to grow, this new technology makes our testing process easier and quicker for our staff as well as provide more reliable results online for patients who are checking their own results.”

Those with pre-booked appointments will be asked to park their vehicles and go inside the facility. Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre continues to oversee the facility, and asks that all patients book online or by phone at (705)797-3120, option 4.

Starting Monday, November 30, the COVID-19, Cold and Flu Clinic will operate daily from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
