Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) has received the highest possible performance designation from Accreditation Canada - Accredited with Exemplary Standing. This means that the health centre was evaluated on approximately 2,700 standards and received a near-perfect score. RVH met 100% of the Required Organizational Practices and 99.4% of the accreditation standards.
During a four-day visit in early-February, external Accreditation Canada surveyors assessed every aspect of RVH's programs, policies, and practices. The surveyors were particularly impressed with RVH's efforts to involve patients and families in decision-making, focus on quality and safety, maintain a clean building, have a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan, dedication to research and ethical decision-making, and leading clinical practices.
RVH President and CEO, Gail Hunt, said the accreditation provides independent confirmation they are a safe, quality organization. It sends a message to patients in the region that they can have great confidence in the care they receive at RVH. Hunt acknowledged that a huge amount of work went into preparing for accreditation, and she is proud of TEAM RVH for their hard work and dedication to the safety of their patients and their families.
Accreditation is voluntary for Canadian healthcare organizations and is intended to help organizations identify what they do well, along with opportunities for improvement.
