Santa Claus Parade Rolls Through Barrie

Christmas In The Movies Is This Year's Theme

The floats are prepped and Jolly Old Saint Nick’s on the way. The Barrie Santa Claus parade is set for Saturday November 16th, as the big guy himself and over 50 floats will weave their way through the downtown area.

The Barrie Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Barrie Association (BIA) have teamed up for another year to bring a night filled with holiday spirit.

List of Santa Claus Parades from now until Christmas

Prior to the parade, there will be activities with Noella at Meridian Place with the showing of Miracle on 34th street starting at 3 pm. There will be treats, kid’s activities and hayrides to enjoy.

Sarah Taylor, chair of this year’s parade says the theme is “Christmas In The Movies.”

Businesses have been having lots of fun with the theme, Taylor says, expect to see Iron Man and The Grinch there, too.

Floats participating are reminded that there can’t be any walkers outside the float, everyone must be on the float and absolutely no throwing items such as candy.

The parade kicks off at 5 pm with the route from Lakeshore Drive & Tiffin Street – Bradford Street- Dunlop Street- Mulcaster Street.

Once complete, Santa will turn on the 35 foot Christmas Tree at Meridian Place, complete with its 50 thousand lights. The city Of Barrie then follows that up with fireworks shortly after.

This is the start of the Christmas season here in Barrie, Taylor says. “It’s very exciting.”
