School Board Rubber Stamps Budget That Includes No Job Losses

Staffing Increases in Some Areas

Some new positions could be expected out of the latest public school budget, while the layoffs announced earlier won’t be affected.

The Simcoe County District School Board last night voted to approve a proposed budget that that calls for a staffing increase for French Immersion teachers, early childhood educators, and educational assistants.

An increase in funding is expected to programs like Special Education, Indigenous Education, and a New Teacher Induction Program.

However, the 72 layoffs previously announced by the board will not be renewed next year under this budget, but could hopefully be reduced if the teacher’s union is successful in applying for a Local Priority Fund.
