School boards in Simcoe County kibosh several March Break trips over coronavirus concerns

The cancelled trips had connections to Italy

Some students who had been counting on a March Break getaway are going nowhere.

Concerns about COVID-19 has resulted in the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board cancelling two trips with connections to Italy.

A student trip to Italy has also been scrapped by the Simcoe County District School Board.

Italy is the worst affected country in Europe by the coronavirus.

As of Wednesday evening, there has been 107 deaths from COVID-19 in Italy and more than 3,000 confirmed cases.

In an effort to contain the outbreak, the government has announced all schools and universities will be closed for 10-days beginning tomorrow.

As well, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said all soccer matches and other large sporting events will take place without fans present until April 3.
