Scream VII has lost two of its leading ladies.
Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, who played sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter in the previous two slasher films, won't be reprising the roles in the upcoming sequel.
Earlier this week, Spyglass Entertainment let Barrera go from the film after several social media posts over the Israel-Hamas war.
A rep for Spyglass says Barrera's comments were interpreted as antisemitic, a claim Barrera denies.
Spyglass now says that Ortega has declined to return to her role as Tara, but her representatives say it has nothing to do with Barrera's firing.
Sources say Ortega informed Spyglass of her decision before the Hollywood actor's strike.
Deadline reported that she dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with her Netflix show "Wednesday."
Scream VII director Christopher Landon took to X/Twitter to express his frustration saying, "This is my statement: Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make."
The loss of the two main actresses leaves the future of the rebooted franchise in question.
Barrera and Ortega were instrumental characters who saw the classic slasher film franchise brought back to life in 2022.
