Senior man dead after apartment fire on Ross Street

Ross Street fire

Officials say an elderly man is dead after being transported to hospital from an apartment fire on Ross Street in Barrie.

Cory Mainprize, Fire Chief for Barrie Fire & Emergency Service, says they attended the low-rise residential complex near Parkside Drive at around 3 a.m. Barrie police attended the scene to assist.

Mainprize says the blaze was contained in one unit.

He added that one occupant was inside and was then transported to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) in life-threatening condition.

Peter Leon, a Barrie Police Service spokesperson, says the man has been pronounced dead.

The Investigation is ongoing and the Ontario fire marshal is attending to determine the cause of the fire.
