Suspect in sex assaults investigation met alleged victims via online dating apps: Barrie police

Updated April 12, 2024 @ 4:09pm

A man has been charged in an ongoing sexual assault investigation by Barrie police who say the alleged victims met the accused via online dating applications.

Police say once meeting the women in person, he allegedly assaulted them while brandishing a gun.

The 19-year-old suspect was arrested April 3 at a residence in the area of Essa Road and Loggers Run and is facing a number of weapons and assault-related charges involving two women.

Police are concerned that other women may have had similar experiences with the accused and are encouraging anyone that has to contact investigators at 705-725-7025 ext. 2931 or 2932.

Authorities have released a picture of the suspect.

Due to a court-imposed publication ban, no further details will be released by police regarding this investigation.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court next week for a bail hearing.

Any information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or leave an anonymous tip online at www.p3tips.com.
