Barrie Police say a 21-year-old man who suffered a gunshot wound has been released from hospital.

Police got wind of the shooting around 7:30 Thursday evening when the man showed up at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

"It's believed the attack took place early in the evening at a residence near Toronto and Dunlop Street West," according to Jennett Mays, Barrie Police communications spokesperson.

Investigators do not believe there is a risk to public safety.

They have not said anything about a suspect or suspects.
