Barrie police tell Barrie 360 they are looking for suspects after a shot was fired during an attempted break-in to a home in the city's north end.
Police spokesman Peter Leon said officers were called to the residence in the area of Springdale Drive and Cundles Road East around 2:20 on Monday morning.
Leon said the home is a rental and the rear window of the apartment was broken, and a shot was fired through the door.
The family that lives in the basement unit also has a couple of young children.
Asked if the residence was targeted or if it was a random break-in attempt, Leon said that is part of the police investigation.
Leon said there is video surveillance that police now have that shows four individuals in the backyard of the residence and at least one of the males appears to be armed with a shotgun and the other looks like they are in possession of a pistol.
The four did not get into the home and fled the scene.
Video of the incident is making the rounds on social media which Leon said police are not happy about claiming it could compromise the investigation.
Leon confirmed to Barrie 360 that police were at the same residence in November regarding an incident that related to something in an upper floor unit.
No arrests have been made in connection with that case.
In this latest incident, police said the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.
