Game on! Simcoe County Rovers challenge Toronto FC

The Simcoe County Rovers trained at B-MO Field the other day ahead of Wednesday's Canadian Championship preliminary-round game with Toronto FC.

Jamaican-born captain Tajay Reid says the Simcoe players are relishing the challenge, calling it a great opportunity for the lads. 

The Barrie-based Rovers qualified for the cup competition by winning the League 1 Ontario title.

The Canadian Championship features 14 teams, including three Canadian Major League Soccer clubs plus the eight Canadian Premier League franchises and the Ontario, Quebec and B.C. champions.

The tournament kicked off Tuesday with a match between Vancouver FC and Cavalry FC.

When the Rovers take to the pitch at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday as the underdogs, Toronto has had its own challenges, coming off a league-worst 4-20-10 2023 season in MLS.
