In response to an evacuation order issued by the Ministry of Environment and action required by the City of Barrie, the County of Simcoe has mobilized emergency support for individuals residing in the wooded area west of Anne Street.

Coordinated Evacuation Efforts Underway

The County is actively assisting with the safe evacuation of the encampment by establishing two temporary support sites:

  • Triage Centre: 117 Tiffin Street, Barrie
  • 24-Hour Indoor Evacuation Site: 29 Sperling Drive, Barrie

These locations are designed to provide immediate relief and connect individuals to essential services.

What Support Is Being Offered?

Residents accessing these temporary facilities will receive:

  • Homelessness outreach and wellness checks
  • Access to HART of Simcoe County navigators
  • Transportation between sites provided by the City of Barrie
  • Food and cooling options
  • Temporary storage for personal belongings
  • 24-hour indoor shelter access

While these services are not long-term programs, they will remain available until the immediate needs of the community are met.
