Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirms one new COVID case, offers summer playtime advice

Health Unit says water balloon fights are a low risk source of fun

There was just one new addition to the local COVID-19 caseload on Friday morning, along with a slew of recoveries.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) says a New Tecumseth woman between the ages of 65 and 79 is the latest to have lab tests show she’s contracted the virus. Another 16 recoveries were reported at the same time.

Meanwhile, the SMDHU is offering some advice for parents worried about their kids’ safety while they play with others. The Health Unit has released a chart ranking different activities on their risk of spreading COVID-19, saying wrestling would be considered high risk, while a water balloon fight wold be lower. The SMDHU encourages parents who still have questions to call the SMDHU Health Connection hotline at 705-721-7520 (1-877-721-7520).
