Simulated hazmat emergency exercise near Alliston

The Alliston area is the scene of a staged emergency exercise on Thursday at the CPKC Spence Pre-Tripping Facility, located just west of the 11th Line and Tottenham Road intersection.

According to the County of Simcoe and the Town of New Tecumseth, the exercise will help emergency personnel learn, practice, and test the coordination of emergency services on scene in the context of a chemical leak originating from a rail car.

During this time, the community may see a non-toxic coloured smoke in the area, and additional emergency vehicle and personnel in hazmat suits present through this planned training event,

The town Emergency Operations Centre will be activated for this simulation, and the response will include the County's Emergency Management personnel, County of Simcoe Paramedic Services, New Tecumseth Fire Rescue, Barrie Fire HaxMat Team, OPP, and staff from CPKC Railway.

The training exercise will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
