SIU Probing Peterborough Shooting Involving Police and Wanted Man

Man Wanted on Canada-Wide Warrant Killed Following Police Interaction Late Tuesday Evening

The province’s police watchdog has been called in to probe a fatal police-involved shooting in Peterborough where a wanted man was killed.

A 27-year-old man, wanted on a Canada-wide arrest warrant for skipping parole, was spotted driving a vehicle along Highway 115 approaching Peterborough last night around 10:30. Before police could pull the vehicle over, the Special Investigations Unit claims the vehicle was involved in a collision.

After police approached and an interaction ensued, the SIU says an officer fired his gun, striking the driver. He was taken to hospital and pronounced deceased.
