Snowmobiler pulled from Lake Simcoe in Oro-Medonte

The rider was airlifted to a Toronto hospital

A snowmobiler crashed through the ice while riding on Lake Simcoe in the Orillia-area on Friday night.

Provincial police say two snowmobiles were riding near Line 15 South and Woodland Drive around 6 p.m. when one of the sleds went through the ice. The second rider tried to pull the other man to safety but was unable to. He hung on to the individual for nearly an hour until Oro-Medonte firefighters reached them by airboat.

The man was airlifted to a Toronto hospital in life-threatening condition.
