A significant period of hot and dry weather, despite the humidity, has forced the Township of Springwater to enact a ban on outdoor water usage and fires across the area.
The average maximum temperature for the month of July measured by Environment Canada at the Barrie-Oro station is 28.1 C. That doesn't account for the humidex.
The highest recorded temperature in the area over that period was 32.1 C.

WATER BAN
The Township has enacted the ban under Bylaw 2017-087. It ensures an adequate level of water that's available for unexpected emergencies.
Such actions include:
- Filling up of swimming pools, no matter what size
- Watering of existing lawns
- Watering of trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens
- Washing of vehicles
- Use of water toys, waterslides and water sprinklers
- Washing of paved driveways
- Washing of siding and windows
- Watering of new lawns (sod or seed)
A minimum fine of $150 enforced against those who fail to comply. This is under bylaw 2009-042.
FIRE BAN
In response to heightened fire risk conditions, the Township has issued a complete ban on all outdoor burning. Additionally, all previously issued fire permits are now temporarily suspended until further notice.
Township officials have also confirmed that the ban includes the use of fireworks
Such actions include:
- Outdoor fires, including campfires, bonfires, and burning of brush
- Setting off fireworks
- Use of fire pits or outdoor fireplaces
Wednesday, Springwater Fire officials raised the fire risk in area, setting it to high.
Due to the dry conditions, the fire danger rating has been set at HIGH. A high fire rating means there is an increased risk for fire. Please use extreme caution when burning and always follow the rules listed on your burn permit. View the full details: https://t.co/tKOHwNWhkh pic.twitter.com/Z0wR3OcL2p
