The Township of Springwater’s Municipal Emergency Control Group continues to respond to the impacts of the ice storm.
A Special Weather Statement is in effect for our area from Wednesday, April 2 to Thursday, April 3, 2025, for potential freezing rain and localized flooding. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel. Watch out for flooding in low-lying areas where water tends to collect. Keep an eye on water levels, especially near rivers and streams.
Cleanup Efforts
Township resources are fully engaged in the response to the impacts of the ice storm and are
working to clear roadways, maintain critical infrastructure and prioritize public safety. Crews
continue to monitor the road conditions, noting damages, downed power lines and tree
branches.
Hydro One advises that they continue to work around the clock and in full force to restore
power to areas impacted by the ice storm.
Township crews will continue to provide cleanup along roadways once Hydro One has
provided safe clearance for roadside cleanup. Cleanup is expected to take several days to
make the roads passable, depending on weather conditions. We are committed to ensuring
that all our roads are safe and accessible as quickly as possible but ask for your patience
during these cleanup efforts. To report debris on municipal road ways, visit the Report a
Concern on the Township’s website.
The Township has procured support from outside organizations and contractors to aid in the
priority cleanup of Township roads and parks. This work is anticipated to take 2-4 weeks to
complete.
If clearing debris on your property, use extreme caution—downed wires, unstable branches,
and sharp debris may not be immediately visible. Always assume all wires are live and keep a
safe distance. Keep all debris and cleanup off the side of the road. This obstructs emergency
response, blocks drainage and delays cleanup. Residents are encouraged to hire a
professional, if possible.
Residents cannot burn brush on their property and must follow the Open-Air Burning permit
requirements (no more than 2 cubic meters of material), which only allows for the burning of
recreational fires (0.75 m in diameter by 0.75 m in height) and using proper cut wood.

Waste Collections and Disposal
Waste collections scheduled for the week of Monday, March 31 to Thursday, April 3rd will
continue where possible. If areas are missed due to debris or ongoing road closures on your
designated collection day, residents are to leave carts curbside. Collection crews will attempt
to collect those locations during the week, up to and including Friday, April 4, 2025. For further
details on waste collection and disposal please visit the County of Simcoe website:

Brush and Yard Waste Disposal
To cleanup the significant quantities of brush in the County of Simcoe leaf and yard waste
trucks will only be accepting bundled brush, not bagged leaf and yard waste, from April 14th to
25th. We ask residents to be patient as, due to volume, not all material may be able to be
collected within the first few weeks of yard waste collection. Leaf and yard waste collection will
continue biweekly as per the regular schedule and as of April 28th material may include both
bagged leaf and yard waste and bundled brush. Residents are asked to place material out on
the Monday of your garbage week by 7 a.m.
For curbside collection, brush must be prepared as follows: - Bundles should be secured with natural twine
- Bundles should be no larger than 2 meters in length and 30 cm in diameter
- Individual branches should not exceed 7 cm in diameter
- Branches should not exceed 2 meters in length
- Logs are not accepted at the curb
Brush that is not bundled or exceeds size limits may be left behind. Unbundled brush, large
branches and logs are accepted at all County Waste Facilities, no limits apply. Brush debris
will be accepted free of charge at Waste Facilities, from March 31 through April 28, 2025. Root
balls are not considered brush and will be charged at the full waste disposal rate.
