South Simcoe Police say two separate collisions on Sideroad 5 near Georgian Downs in Innisfil on Thursday morning can be attributed to poor road conditions.

Around 7:35 a.m., police received a call from a driver who reported both collisions.

"The first vehicle, Grey Buick, was travelling southbound on Sideroad 5 when the vehicle began to slide into the east side ditch landing on its roof. The driver was able to exit the vehicle. The driver was transported by ambulance to hospital as a precautionary measure. At approximately the same time, a second vehicle, White Chevrolet Malibu transporting two passengers, was travelling in the same direction when it began to slide on black ice causing the vehicle to go into the west side ditch and collide into a fence. The driver and passengers reported no injuries," police said in a news release.

Police closed the road for the investigation and it has since reopened.

"Flash freezing occurs when temperatures rapidly drop causing damp services to freeze almost instantly. This can create hazardous road conditions as they may become icy and dangerous. South Simcoe Police urge drivers to use extreme caution, especially on bridges and overpasses, reduce speed, avoid sudden brakes and movements, maintain a safe following distance, and to make sure your vehicle is winter-ready and stay alert," the news release stated.
