South Simcoe Police have arrested and charged a 14-year-old youth after a "targetted and disturbing" assault on a disabled person from Bradford West Gwillimbury.

The youth turned themself in Tuesday after video of the violent assault had circulated online. It showed the victim being led to a secluded area where they were subjected to repeated acts of violence.

The youth, facing multiple counts of assault, has been released from custody with a court appearance at a later date.

Police say they had been actively investigating a series of incidents against the victim over the last few weeks in which they were deliberately targetted, harassed, and bullied by a group of youths.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests and charges may follow, according to police.

Police say parents and guardians should speak to their children about responsible use of social media and the consequences that can result from violent and bullying behaviour.
