Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation has relaunched its “Because of YOU” campaign—aiming to raise a record-breaking $80 million to modernize and expand services for over 100,000 residents in South Simcoe.
“This is more than bricks and mortar—it’s about access to exceptional care, close to home,” said Sylvia Biffis, Campaign Chair. “We’re building a hospital that supports families today and generations to come.”
What the Future Holds
The enhanced hospital will include:
- An expanded Emergency Department, tripling in size with separate zones and private family rooms
- 47 private inpatient rooms, with two palliative care suites and an Enhanced Care Unit
- Five new Labour and Delivery rooms
- Upgraded surgical services and repositioned helipad for faster, safer emergency access
- Stevenson’s first MRI, bringing diagnostic imaging closer to home
Community Momentum Builds
The renewed campaign emphasizes the community’s central role in building the hospital’s future. Emergency Nurse Taya daNeef noting, “We see people on the worst day of their lives. These upgrades will change how we deliver care—and how patients experience it.”
Dr. Ted Vandevis, Chair of the Foundation’s Board, echoed that sentiment, stressing the importance of collaboration: “It’s the people of this region—our donors, volunteers, and partners—who are making this dream possible.”
How to Get Involved
As Stevenson approaches its 100th anniversary in 2028, the campaign invites every resident to play a part in this transformation. Whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, community members are key to reaching the $80 million goal.
“This hospital is being built by you and for you,” said Frank Cerisano, CEO of the Foundation. “Because of you, we can.”
