News release - Stevenson Memorial Hospital

If you are new to the area or happen to be without a family physician, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) Clinic at Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) can help.

The Clinic is accepting new patients and is a great option for those who may be new to the community and without a local physician, those who are on a waitlist in between providers or are currently in the process of finding a family physician in the area.

The hospital has recently hired an additional NP to their staff complement and are able to take on new patients. The NP Clinic can provide care to anyone of all ages in need of health care, from infants to seniors.

"Nurse practitioners are able to provide health care services that are comparable to a family doctor. We are able to refer patients to specialists for anything that might be out of scope or if anyone is in need of specialized care,” says Marcie Dunn, Nurse Practitioner at SMH. “We have many specialists available right here at the hospital, so services are very accessible, which makes it convenient.”

Health services provided by NPs include a wide range, from management of chronic illnesses (i.e. diabetes, arthritis, asthma, heart disease), acute episodic illness, annual physicals, falls prevention for seniors, immunizations, smoking cessation, injury prevention and more.

Located on the second floor in the hospital’s Outpatient Department, the NP Clinic at SMH runs weekly from Monday to Thursday. A dedicated women’s health clinic called the Well Women’s program is offered on Thursdays as well by the NPs, providing physical exams, routine screening, prenatal care or support for menopause.

To make an appointment for the NP Clinic, please call (705) 435-3377 ext. 2346.
