A convenience store clerk was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries after they were assaulted during a robbery, according to Barrie police.
Authorities say the robbery happened shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday at a store located in a plaza at the southwest corner of Bayfield Street and Sophia Street West.
Police learned a lone male entered the store and walked out a short time later without paying for an item.
"The storekeeper followed the male in an attempt to retrieve the stolen item, but the suspect was joined by a second male a short distance away and the storekeeper was assaulted," police said in a news release.
Through video surveillance from the store, police identified a suspect and arrested him Wednesday evening while officers attended an unrelated call. The second male has not been taken into custody, and the only description from police is that he was wearing camouflage shorts.
A 28-year-old of no fixed address has been charged with robbery with theft.
He was held for a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday.
