One of the main reasons James Cameron shot Avatar 2&3 simultaneously was because of the child actors.

The director says he wanted to avoid the 'Stranger Things Effect,' where the kids go through a massive growth spurt and no longer look like little kids by the time you start shooting the next installment.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cameron said the kids were growing like weeds, which is unavoidable, so he decided to film their scenes as closely together.

"Otherwise, you get — and I love Stranger Things — but you get the 'Stranger Things effect' where they're supposed to still be in high school but they look like they're 27. "

He added, "you know, I love the show. It's okay; we'll suspend disbelief. We like the characters, but you know."

For example, in "'Avatar: The way of water,' Jack Champion, who plays Spider, was 12 when they began filming the film and is now 18 years old.

Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, who plays Tuk was 7 when she was cast and is now 13. Those are some massive growth spurts happening in that time.

Anyone familiar with Stranger Things knows that the little guys who started as this…

Turned into this.

The third installment of Avatar comes out in December 2024.
