Sunday's men's and women's finals at the Stroud Cash Spiel played out very differently, but ended with Sandy MacEwan and Sherry Middaugh victorious.

It took MacEwan just four ends to secure the 8-1 victory over Scott Foster in the men's final, while Middaugh played a tightly contested game against defending champion Chelsea Principi on the women's side, escaping with a 4-3 win.

With third Dustin Montpellier, second Olivier Bonin-Ducharme and lead Luc Ouimet of the Sudbury Curling Club, MacEwan went undefeated throughout the tournament, reaching the final with an 8-6 win over Jacob Lamb in the semifinal after stealing two in the sixth end.

His run included a 6-5 win over Foster in pool play before facing him in the final.

MacEwan romped through the final, scoring two in the first end, taking advantage of a missed takeout by Foster that removed two of his own stones and left MacEwan's shot rock.

He then wrecked on a guard on his last stone in the second end, which gave MacEwan a steal of four and a 6-0 lead after two ends.

Foster scored once in the third before MacEwan pulled off a runback double at the top of the rings with his last stone of the fourth to score two and then handshakes.

Foster, who usually plays third for a senior men's team out of the Brant Curling Club in Brantford skipped by Michael Harris, led his team through this tournament along with brothers Jay and Chad Allen.

Their team upset defending champion Michael Fournier in the semifinal round 6-5.

It's the second win in as many events this season for MacEwan. His team also won the Capital Curling Fall Open in Ottawa in September.

For winning, the defending Northern Ontario champions will add 8.25 Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) points to their total, while Foster earned 6.05 points.

Meanwhile, Middaugh's team playing out of the Niagara Falls Curling Club stole a 4-3 victory from clubmate Chelsea Principi in the women's final.

Principi, with third Lauren Peskett, second Brenda Chapman, and lead Keira McLaughlin, forced blanks in the first and second before opening the scoring with a single in the third. She also picked up a deuce in the sixth, making a double takeout in a packed house.

Middaugh, playing with her daughters Emily and Kelly at second and lead, respectively, and third Megan Smith, equalized with a single in the fourth took the lead with a steal in the fifth, and drew even again with one in the seventh.

It all came down to the eighth end when both teams took timeouts between the fifth and eighth stones.

Eventually, Middaugh used her final stone to draw within five feet of the button underneath a high guard, which Principi wrecked on as she tried to make her takeout for the win.

The win for Middaugh comes after she fell to Principi in the semifinals of the 2025 tournament.

Middaugh's team earned 16.5 CTRS points with the win, while Principi picked up 12.1.

The Innisfil husband-and-wife duo of Cory and Heather Heggestad each skipped teams in the tournament, earning 0.4125 and 2.475 points, respectively. Cory won one game in the round robin, while Heather won three games before being eliminated in the quarterfinals by Hollie Duncan.
