Sunday morning fire destroys Oro Medonte home and vehicle parked in driveway

Gusty wind made battling the flames difficult

Damage is pegged at half a million dollars after a fire tore through a home on Line 3 S just north of Ridge Road in Oro Medonte.

Firefighters were called out around 9:30 Sunday morning. The bungalow with an attached garage was fully engulfed. A gusty wind made battling the flames difficult. A vehicle parked in the driveway was also gutted. Crews were able to keep the fire from jumping to a house next door.

The occupants got out safely. Firefighters rescued a cat from the basement. Officials say there were working smoke detectors in the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
