
York Regional Police say a suspect has been arrested in Texas in connection with an attack on Elnaz Hajtamiri in Richmond Hill.
On December 20, 2021, officers responded to an address in the area of Yonge Street and Bantry Avenue, for reports that a female had been attacked and struck with a frying pan in an underground parking garage. The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.
37-year-old Hajtamiri was treated in hosptial for non-life-threatening injuries.
Four suspects were charged in 2022 in connection with the attack, including the victim's ex-boyfriend.
In 2023, three other suspects were arrested.
According to YRP, the latest suspect taken into custody in connection with the attack on Hajtamiri was arrested by authorities in Texas on Aug. 19, and the accused was extradited to York Region last week and charged with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. The 25-year-old accused from Mississauga remains in custody.
Weeks after the attack in Richmond Hill, Hajtamiri was reported to have been abducted on Jan. 12, 2022, from a home in Wasaga Beach by three suspects dressed in fake police gear. They fled in a white Lexus RX Sport Utility Vehicle.
A $100,000 reward exists for information that will lead to the whereabouts of Hajtamiri.
