A 29-year-old man wanted by police in North Bay is in custody after he was arrested at a residence in Barrie.

On January 21, police in the northern Ontario community were alerted to the fact that the suspect's ankle monitor had been broken off while he was before the courts on more than two dozen charges, including several assault-related counts and eight charges of failing to comply with a probation order.

At the time, North Bay police said they believed the accused posed a safety risk to members of the public.

On Wednesday, the suspect was located at a residence in Barrie and was taken into custody by members of the Barrie Police Service Tactical Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police.

He has since been transported back to North Bay and is charged with three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
