Suspects Cuffed After Innisfil Kijiji Sale Goes South

Pair Facing Charges including Robbery With Violence

Two young Toronto men are facing charges after a Kijiji sale in Innisfil turned into a violent mugging.

Two women trying to sell a cellphone on Kijiji agreed to meet a pair of potential buyers one evening in mid-July but became wary midway through the transaction. When the two women tried to leave the park, police say the buyers punched and pushed one of them. The cellphone was stolen and the bad guys ran off. A similar incident came to light later, where the would-be victim backed off before anything happened.

The Street Crimes Unit zeroed in on a pair of suspects, an 18- and 19-year-old, both from Toronto. Both face Violent Robbery-related charges and will be in front of a judge next month.

“South Simcoe Police Service urges buyers and sellers of online items to always be vigilant.” according to a statement from South Simcoe Police, “Meeting at a public location will help ensure your safety. Choose well-lit areas with other people and if possible security cameras. Busy parking lots of coffee shops, fast food restaurants, or even our police stations are good choices. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Trust your gut and use common sense.”
