Driving when the person wasn't supposed to be behind the wheel apparently mattered little to a 33-year-old man of no fixed address.
Just after 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 19, police received a call about a minivan that had been stolen from a Codrington Street home.
Soon after, the vehicle was spotted by an officer as it turned southbound on Bayfield Street from Sophia Street. With the assistance of extra officers, the minivan was safely stopped and the driver was taken into custody.
"Prior to leaving the scene of the traffic stop, police noticed some tools in the van and were able to confirm that they were stolen from the same home that the van was stolen from. As well, a quantity of cannabis was located in close proximity to the driver’s seat," police said in a news release on Monday.
Charges against the accused include driving while under suspension, driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available, failing to comply with a probation order, break and enter, theft of a vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime.
He was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
The suspect is to appear in court by video link on Wednesday.
