An SUV that was stolen in Barrie was located this week by Toronto police.
On Sept. 7, police say a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser was stolen from the driveway of a home on Livingstone Street West.
From the investigation that followed, police say they learned the homeowner was awakened by the activation of his car alarm at 4:30 a.m. and moments later saw his SUV reversing out of the driveway and being driven westbound on Livingstone Street West at a high rate of speed.
"Surveillance video was later reviewed, and it clearly showed two unknown and disguised males approach the vehicle, and while one male broke a rear window, the second male scanned the vehicle with a handheld device," Barrie police stated in a news release. "The male who broke the window got into the Land Cruiser and then drove it away."
According to the news release, Toronto police recovered the vehicle on Tuesday, and it was towed to a police facility where it will be forensically examined.
The investigation into the theft remains ongoing.
"Detectives from the Barrie Police – South Simcoe Police Street Crime Auto Theft Unit are aware of this theft and recovery and encourage members of the community to consider the use of after-market security and tracking devices, immobilizers, and onboard diagnostic (OBD) port locks if they are unable to secure their vehicles in a locked garage," police said in the news release.
