A community gathered at a candlelight vigil on Saturday night to support each other and the families and friends of the six young people who died in a single-vehicle crash last weekend in Barrie.
With the Spirit Catcher as the backdrop, mourners placed candles on the steps of the monument as flowers were placed beneath a picture of the young people, all of them in their early 20s.
Tears were shed and memories shared to honour 22 year-old Curtis King, 23-year-old River Wells, 22-year old Jason Ono-O'Conner, 22-year-old Luke West, Jersey Mitchell and Haley Marin. The names have been shared by family and friends, but have not been made public by police.
Family members, friends and teammates, some sporting athletic jerseys, wept and tried to console one another.
The six victims were all in their early 20s, and were found dead at the site of the single-vehicle crash early Sunday, on McKay Road near Veteran’s Drive, hours after police reported them missing.
The crash had not been reported to police when officers got to the scene at a large concrete pit.
The City of Barrie has said McKay Road has been closed to all but local traffic since the spring because of a construction project.
