Police have charged a youth in connection with a home invasion in Orillia.
Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a residence in the area of Westmount Drive and Arthur Street for reports of a home invasion.
"Police were advised multiple armed suspects had entered the victim's home. The suspects fled with personal items and the victim's vehicle, prior to police arrival," OPP stated in a news releae.
With the assistance of other police services, including Barrie, South Simcoe, York Regional, and Toronto, OPP located the stolen vehicle along with a second stolen vehicle southbound on Highway 11 near Highway 93 in Oro-Medonte.
Police brought the vehicle to a stop, and arrested the lone occupant, a male driver. The victim's car was later found abandoned in Toronto.
A 17-year-old has been charged with the following:
· Disguise with intent CC 351(2)
· Theft of Motor Vehicle CC 333.1
· Pointing a firearm CC 87 (2 counts)
· Assault with a weapon CC 267(a)
· Break, enter a dwelling CC 348(1)(a)
· Possession of property obtained by Crime Over $5000 CC 354(1)(a)
· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 CC 354(1)(a)
· Robbery using Firearm CC 344(1)(a)
The accused has been held in custody.
