Barrie police have charged a 16-year-old for allegedly discharging pepper spray inside the bathroom of a business.

Around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, police say an officer was on patrol in the area of St. Vincent Street and Cundles Road East when the business owner flagged them down after a youth, who had previously been trespassing on the business property, was just in the store and discharged pepper spray in the bathroom.

The teen fled on foot but was nabbed by police a short distance away.

He was charged with mischief under $5,000 and administering a noxious substance with "intent to aggrieve or annoy."

The youth was released from custody and has a court date in October.
