A need for speed has proven to be costly for a 16-year-old boy from Barrie.
Police were conducting traffic enforcement on Wednesday afternoon on Cundles Road East, where the posted speed is a 50 km/h zone.
An officer pulled over a vehicle for speeding, according to a Barrie police news release.
The driver, who was clocked at 98 km/h in the 50 zone, was charged with speeding and stunt driving.
As a result, the driver's licence of the teen has been suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.
"Barrie police wish to remind all motorists that excessive speed on our city streets is not only dangerous, but completely unacceptable," the police news release stated. With school-aged children making their way back to school this week, police are asking motorists to drive in accordance with all posted speed limits, use caution in and around our schools, and to remember that road safety is a shared responsibility."
