The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is probing a police-involved shooting in Innisfil.
According to the SIU, a 19-year-old man is dead and the other, also 19, is critically injured in hospital.
The SIU said that around 3 p.m., South Simcoe police officers were called to a home on Shoreview Drive for a family dispute.
"Officers arrived and there was an interaction involving the two men outside the residence. Four officers discharged their firearms at the men. Both men were taken to hospital in Barrie, where one was pronounced deceased. The other man is critically injured and has been transferred to a Toronto hospital," stated the SIU in a media release on Thursday night.
Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates incidents involving the police that have resulted in death, serious injury, or reports of sexual assault.
South Simcoe Police added they have requested the Ontario Provincial Police conduct a parallel investigation into the incident.
