More than 500 people thumbed their noses at the rain yesterday to take part in the Terry Fox Run in Orillia.
They raised $42,200, surpassing the $1 per Orillia resident goal for an 11th consecutive year. Over the years the Orillia run has raised close to $765,000.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our volunteers and our community to again come through with one of our best ever results to support research into all forms of cancer and producing better outcomes and treatments,” says Orillia run organizer Alison Stoneman. “It was a great day!”
Terry’s niece Alexandra Fox and the Foundation’s Executive Director Ara Sahakian made their first venture to Orillia and experienced first-hand the opening ceremonies and warm-up, the display of red-shirted members of Terry’s Team (cancer survivors) and to view the Rotary Aquatheatre where Terry spoke to hundreds on July 27th, 1980.
