The Town of Innisfil is promoting an app called Nextdoor to keep people connected

Nextdoor is an accessible network for neighbours who would like to stay connected with those around them

To combat the downsides of physical distancing, the Town of Innisfil is promoting the use of a social media network called Nextdoor.

“Innisfil recognizes that connecting with one another plays a vital role in keeping our community healthy,” says Mayor Lynn Dollin. “We hope that this new platform will provide another positive way for residents to connect while practicing physical distancing, helping us to continue to build resilient neighbourhoods.”

With it becoming increasingly more difficult to stay connected amid the COVID-19 crisis, finding new means of social interaction is more important than ever. Nextdoor provides a platform where you can communicate with others in your community.

By simply filling in your email address, postal code and the first line of your home address, you will gain access to a social network that is exclusive to your neighbourhood. There, you can find the latest information on what is going on around you and how others are coping with physical isolation.

“Nextdoor was built to bring neighbours together - this is important in good times and essential in times of need,” says Christopher Doyle, Country Manager, Nextdoor Canada. “Neighbours are turning to Nextdoor to receive critical, real-time information from public agencies. We’re honoured to partner with the Town of Innisfil. We’re also grateful to town officials and emergency service providers for their efforts to keep residents safe during this unprecedented crisis.”

You can use the network to collaborate on picking up necessities for those who can't, check-in with those who are close to you and organize virtual meet-ups or groups while you wait out the lockdown.
