The Weeknd's success on the road has reached blinding new heights.
Live Nation says the Canadian superstar has broken the record for highest-grossing tour by a male solo artist.
On Thursday, the “Blinding Lights” singer wrapped his After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour with a performance in Kuala Lumpur, bringing the trek’s total gross to more than US$1.3 billion.
Live Nation says that surpasses the record held by Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which racked up more than $939 million.
The Weeknd's run now ranks third among the highest-grossing tours of all time, behind Taylor Swift's Eras Tour and Coldplay's Music of the Spheres tour.

Thursday's show in Kuala Lumpur closed a trek that began at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on July 14, 2022. The tour spanned 176 shows across 67 cities, 30 countries and five continents, selling more than nine million tickets, says Live Nation.
The tour made its first stop in Asia this fall, expanding from 11 dates announced in May to 17 sold-out stadium shows. That included four nights at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium, where The Weeknd sold nearly 200,000 tickets to become the city's top-selling international male solo artist.
The Hong Kong shows also inspired a new single, “Hong Kong,” featuring Cantopop icon Faye Wong and sampling her 1993 song “Monsoon.” The Weeknd debuted the track during his first Kai Tak performance on Oct. 24 before releasing it on Oct. 31.
The tour has also supported several charitable initiatives. Live Nation says The Weeknd has donated US$8.5 million to the XO Humanitarian Fund and Global Citizen over its four-year run.
That includes US$3 million this year to support hunger relief through the United Nations World Food Programme and initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers facing women and girls in health, education and economic opportunity.
