
Three people were charged following a Cannabis Act investigation and the seizure of more than $4 million worth of illegal cannabis plants, clones, and processed buds on June 11.
A referral from Health Canada regarding an operation that was exceeding established cultivation limits was responded to by law enforcement members from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team (PJFCET).
With the assistance of City of Kawartha Lakes OPP and the OPP Community Street Crime Unit, investigators located and seized approximately 3,750 illegal cannabis plants, 12,500 cannabis clones, as well as approximately 430 pounds of dried, processed cannabis.
Three individuals were charged with cultivating cannabis without authorization, including two people from Markham, and one from Calgary.
Cannabis Act (S.C. 2018, c. 16): Section 12 (6) (a)
"Unless authorized under this Act, it is prohibited for an individual who is 18 years of age or older, to cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house or to offer to do so"
The three charged will appear in court in Lindsay on July 10.
